My background

I have worked for some of the world's largest media organisations such as international news agencies Reuters and Agence France-Presse as well as the BBC.

I started my career in Moscow in 1993 working as a general reporter for a newspaper called The Moscow Tribune, before becoming a Moscow and London correspondent for the news agency United Press International.

Between 1997 and 2000 I worked as a sports correspondent for Agence France-Presse in Paris and London. After a spell at BBC News Online, I joined Reuters in 2000 and covered major international sports events such as the football World Cup, the Summer and Winter Olympics and numerous grand slam tennis tournaments. I relocated to Cornwall in late 2006.

A graduate of Exeter University, I speak French and Russian and can design basic websites (such as this one!) using XHTML and CSS. I also give talks and seminars about journalism to undergraduate and post-graduate students.

"A gifted journalist, a sound and thorough sub-editor, an excellent reporter and an outstanding writer" - Paul Radford, Reuters Global Sports Editor
